Highlights: A conspiracy theory circulating online claims that toothpastes contain secret codes that only "elites" know how to decipher. Dentists and toothpaste manufacturers refute the theory and explain that the colored squares at the end of the tube are intended for the light sensors in the production process. Colgate, Crest and all these (toothpaste manufacturers) claim that these little dots don't say anything about the ingredients. The marks and colors are read by sensors and determine when the tube should be cut and sealed so that the tube is the right size.

How did we not notice this until today?

A conspiracy theory that is mostly common on TikTok calls to stay away from certain toothpastes - according to the colored mark that appears on the end of their tube.

The theory claims that there are secret codes on our toothpastes that only the "elites" know how to decipher, but dentists are now trying to calm the public, who are outraged that such an important piece of information has been withheld from them.

These "secret codes" are actually the colored squares that appear on the flat, rigid plastic strip at the bottom of your toothpaste tube.

Go check, they are there.

They come in green, blue, red and black colors - when according to the theory these are the colors red and black you should stay away from.

In one of the videos, which has gained over 7.5 million views on TikTok, a pair of podcasters claimed that people who know the true meaning of the codes give up using certain toothpastes, while this information is hidden from the average consumer.

Many now believe these claims and vow to give up certain toothpastes for good.

So what do the colors mean according to the conspiracy theory?

According to the theory, the colored squares symbolize whether the ingredients in the paste are natural or chemical.

The green square means that the toothpaste is made of natural ingredients only, the blue square means that the paste contains a mixture of natural ingredients and drugs, the red square means that it contains natural ingredients alongside chemical ingredients and the black square means that the paste contains only chemical ingredients.

The response of the dentists

So do we have a reason to throw our toothpaste in the trash?

Wait with your hysteria.

Dentists and toothpaste manufacturers refute the theory and explain that the colored squares at the end of the tube are intended for the light sensors in the machines used in the production process - and in general mark where the end of the tube is so that it is possible to make a cut at this point and seal the tube properly.

Dr. Nate Coughlin, an orthodontist from Texas, said: "In reality, Colgate, Crest and all these (toothpaste manufacturers) claim that these little dots don't say anything about the ingredients of the toothpaste.

The marks and colors are read by sensors and determine when the tube should be cut and sealed so that the tube is the right size." The toothpaste company Silverhill Dental in Ontario, Canada, stated: "The toothpaste color coding system simply does not exist.

The color at the bottom of your toothpaste tube doesn't mean anything about the ingredients and you don't need to look at it to determine which toothpaste you should use."

Even the "Colgate" company published a statement refuting the claim: "As much as we like to crack secret codes, there's actually nothing to crack here because it's completely untrue. We're sure you're wondering, 'Why are there marks in the form of colored cubes on the toothpaste tubes?'

And we're happy to report that they do, in fact, have a purpose! They help in the manufacture of toothpaste tubes by letting the light sensors know where the tip of the tube is so that it can be cut and sealed properly. We know, it's not really a secret code, but we think The truth is also pretty cool."
