Highlights: Dupont de Ligonnès: “I think he is alive”, 13 years after the tragedy, his sister still believes in his innocence. “It’s difficult to explain the inexplicable. There is no crime scene in the house and that is very curious. Five people are said to have been murdered and we can't find her, we don't know where it could have taken place,” questioned Bertram de Verdun, brother-in-law of the suspect.

Christine Dupont de Ligonnès and her husband Bertram de Verdun have published a book in which they provide their counter-investigation and their theory

They still believe in his innocence.

Christine Dupont de Ligonnès and her husband Bertram de Verdun were this Saturday, March 9, on the set of the France 2 show “What a time!

», on the occasion of the release of their book presenting a counter-investigation into their brother and brother-in-law, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès.

In “Xavier: my presumed innocent brother”, the little sister of the main suspect in the assassination of his wife and four children in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) in 2011 defends a thesis completely contrary to the police investigation .

According to her, her brother and his family are all alive and well, as he indicated in the letter he sent to his loved ones before his disappearance.

The thesis of voluntary exfiltration

In this text of several pages, he explained that he worked for French intelligence and that he had to flee hastily with the whole family.

“I had the thought of a family tragedy” when reading the letter, admitted the suspect’s sister.

But the rest of the text reinforced her certainties regarding a voluntary departure.

“In his letter, Xavier clearly tells me that he has been doing intelligence for years.

Something I can't verify, but which speaks to me.

Because for years, I really had questions,” explained Christine Dupont de Ligonnès to Léa Salamé.

Asked about the video surveillance images which show her brother alone in the following days, she claimed to recognize him and explained that the children “were able to leave alone, independently” of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès.

“Difficult to explain the inexplicable”

Through this book, she wanted to give “her truth” about the affair, and to highlight what she considers to be inconsistencies in the case: “There are things that we really want to rectify to go against all these rumors.

We have not changed our view of him.

(…) Because we took the risk of going into the investigation file.

We haven't changed our opinion.

»

“It’s difficult to explain the inexplicable.

There is no crime scene in the house and that is very curious.

Five people are said to have been murdered and we can't find her, we don't know where it could have taken place,” questioned Bertram de Verdun, brother-in-law of the suspect.

🗣️ The discovery of the bodies of Agnès Dupont de Ligonnès and her four children, buried under the terrace of the family garden, located in Nantes, is "a staging" for Christine Dupont de Ligonnès

A “staged” at the scene of the tragedy

According to the couple, the man “played the role of the suspect” to fit a scenario organized with the prospect of a complete disappearance of the family for their safety.

This theory allows us to understand, according to them, why Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès bought munitions, but also quicklime, in the days preceding the murders.

🗣️ Quicklime – used in particular to accelerate the decomposition of bodies – purchased by Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès on April 2?

“By studying the investigation file, I knew

(that he had made these purchases)

.

But why does he do it with his bank card?

It’s still not very clever,” pointed out Christine Dupont de Ligonnès, supplemented by her husband: “It was the fact that he bought quicklime that sent the police to probe under the terrace.”

She refutes the suicide theory

They both spoke of a “staged” and the suspect’s sister spoke of members of the police “who would have participated in this scenario”, being “accomplices in an exfiltration”.

“I understand very well that one might find this totally far-fetched but ultimately it is a hypothesis that has been swept aside.

But the arguments put to me do not have that much weight,” defended Christine Dupont de Ligonnès, who has “no reason to believe he committed suicide.”

The couple finally recalled that no Interpol red notice has been issued against Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès since April 2011, which Le Parisien was able to verify on the international organization's website.

Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, 11 years of mystery

“Is he on the run?

Someone should come and prove it to me.”

Christine Dupont de Ligonnès finally claimed not to have believed “for a second” the information concerning the supposed arrest of her brother in October 2019, which subsequently turned out to be an error.

“To think that he is hidden 45 minutes from his mother’s house is ridiculous, it’s unthinkable,” she insisted.
