The Mercedes on the sales stage.
Early estimates were only $10 million/Gooding & Company
A month ago we reported to you about a truly rare classic that is going up for auction: a 60 hp Mercedes Simplex from 1903, which was originally purchased by the British publisher and sports car enthusiast, Alfred Hemsworth, and is now being offered for sale by his granddaughter.
So in the last few days the car went under the hammer at the Gooding & Company dealership in Amelia Island, Florida.
The early estimate of $10 million turned out to be pessimistic: the car eventually sold for $12.105 million, setting a new price record for a car made before 1930.
Porsche RS61.
Only 175 hp, but less than 600 kg/Gooding & Company
And there were some other records set at this auction: a 1961 Porsche RS61, a track car with only 175 hp but weighing less than 600 kg, one of 14 units produced, sold for $3.1 million.
It is true that Gooding expected it to sell for 4-5 million dollars, but this is still a new record for the model.

On the other hand, the 1972 Ferrari GTB/4 365 Daytona Spider sold for $3.635 million, exceeding expectations, and also set a price record for the classic model.
Among the younger classics, the 2015 Porsche 918 Spider achieved a price of $3.525 million, beating legends such as the 1938 Bugatti 57C Atlanta that sold for $2.260 million and the 1957 Mercedes SL300 Roadster that sold for $2.012 million.
