In 2023, ADAC helpers went out an average of more than 9,700 times a day.
Regardless of whether it is a combustion engine or an electric car: one component causes the most problems.
At least it feels like the car always breaks down exactly when you least fit it.
It is all the more important that help is available quickly.
Many car owners then call the ADAC.
On average, the “yellow angels” were called out every nine seconds in 2023: they provided breakdown assistance exactly 3,531,058 times last year.
This means that the number of missions has increased by 3.4 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the automobile club, this probably has to do with the increase in traffic volume after the corona pandemic.

ADAC operations in 2023: The most common reason was the starter battery
A problem that most drivers have probably experienced themselves: the starter battery is empty.
And that was exactly the most common cause of breakdowns in 2023: In 44.1 percent of cases, the ADAC was called out for this reason.
The record day was December 4th, when there was a strong onset of winter with low temperatures and lots of snowfall.
Engine breakdowns followed in second place (22.8 percent), the third most common cause of use were problems with the generator, starter, on-board electrical system or lighting (10.5 percent).

ADAC breakdown statistics: Significantly more use of electric cars
The number of ADAC applications for electric cars increased by around 50 percent (30,009 in 2023) - the reason for this is mainly the growing number of electric cars, but also the fact that many electric vehicles are now reaching an age where Combustion engines also often become more vulnerable.
The starter battery was also by far the most common cause of breakdowns in electric cars (more than 50 percent).
Hybrid vehicles broke down 43,565 times - here too, the most common cause was the starter battery (64 percent).

Breakdown while driving: What drivers should pay attention to
The car doesn't always break down in front of the house or in your own garage - sometimes the vehicle breaks down in the middle of the route.
It is important to keep your nerve in such a stressful situation for many people.
Before getting out, you should definitely put on the high-visibility vest, although you should pay attention to its functionality when purchasing a high-visibility vest.
To ensure that an accident does not occur, the warning triangle must be set up for safety purposes.
In the event of a breakdown, you don't necessarily have to contact the ADAC: There are a number of alternatives for breakdown assistance - these include not only other automobile clubs, but also manufacturer guarantees.
