An SNCF maintenance worker died in the night from Monday to Tuesday, in a “collision” with a freight train, emergency services said.
A source close to the case specified that this agent was hit while he was on foot.
The deceased man, aged 33, was with another agent, who was injured and hospitalized, firefighters added, without specifying his state of health.
The two agents were on foot during the accident, according to a source close to the case.
When questioned, the SNCF specified that the collision occurred around 11:20 p.m. at Dijon station.
Two investigations have been opened, judicial and internal, according to the company, which does not specify the circumstances of the accident.
The public prosecutor in Dijon, Olivier Caracotch, confirmed the opening of an investigation for “involuntary homicide and involuntary injuries in the context of work”, entrusted to the Interdepartmental Directorate of the National Police (DIPN) of Côte-d 'Gold.
Four shocked witnesses
Four other - shocked - witnesses to the accident, including a 39-year-old woman, and three men aged 31, 21 and 24, were taken care of, in particular by a medical-psychological emergency cell, according to the firefighters.
According to France Bleu Bourgogne, eight firefighters were mobilized to the scene.
One of the city's deputy mayors - whose name was not specified by the local press - also went to the site, as did the national police.
