He killed his father with 27 stab wounds.
The Metz investigating chamber on Tuesday judged a 25-year-old young man to be criminally irresponsible for this murder and for having attempted to kill his two brothers, in 2022, while everyone was sleeping in the family apartment.
Despite "charges sufficient to qualify the murder of his father and the attempted murder of his two brothers, the accused is considered criminally irresponsible due to an abolition of discernment", which was concluded by three successive psychiatric assessments, motivated the Metz investigating chamber in its decision.
The diagnosis made by experts is that of “paranoid schizophrenia”.
The court therefore decided on compulsory hospitalization for the young man as well as a ban on possessing a weapon for 20 years.
At the hearing on February 13, the attorney general also requested “because of these expert opinions that the accused be declared not criminally responsible”, as well as “lifetime care” and “complete psychiatric hospitalization”.
“Psychiatric dangerousness”
Despite psychotropic and neuroleptic treatment, taken correctly, the experts considered that “at the time of the act, the subject was decompensated”.
“His dangerousness is psychiatric, not criminal.”
At the last examination, in January, the young man remained convinced that his father was not dead, they noted.
“He does not seem to understand the seriousness of the procedure he is undergoing and his mental state;
while he is in the unit for difficult patients.”
The drama took place behind the closed doors of the family apartment, in the Metz-Borny district on July 31, 2022, around 3:30 a.m. while everyone was sleeping.
The father, who was stabbed 27 times, did not survive his injuries.
Then, the attacker attacked his two brothers who desperately tried to control and disarm him.
“If there is no possible dispute on the facts of parricide, with regard to the two other crimes, I consider that there are not sufficient charges to say that my client wanted to make an attempt on life of his two brothers: he never had any anger against them,” his lawyer, Me Elliot Hellenbrand, pleaded at the hearing, requesting the reclassification of the facts or a dismissal of the case.
Concluding: “He is sick and not guilty.”
