"Our sweet, loving and talented Eric died in his sleep over the weekend," his wife wrote on his official website.

"It brought him great happiness to know that for decades his music touched so many and it will be the legacy he leaves behind."



Carmen, a member of a family of Jewish immigrants who came to the United States from Russia, broke out in the early 1970s as a member of the band "Raspberries", known among other things for the song "Go All The Way".



Later, Carmen created a number of hits as a solo artist.

The best known of them is "All By Myself", based on Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2.

It was his first solo song, and he was a huge success.

Later, the song starred in the soundtrack of the movie "Bridget Jones's Diary", and is also known for a successful cover version by Celine Dion.

Another well-known song of his, "Hungry Eyes", appeared on the soundtrack of the movie "Depraved Dance".
