On Sunday, at the end of a close battle with Lily Gladstone, Emma Stone won her second Oscar statuette for best actress, this time for the movie "Such Poor People" (the previous one was in 2016 for "La La Land").
If you have not yet caught the movie in the cinema - which is still possible in selected cinemas - now is your chance to watch it in the comfort of your home.
Starting today (Thursday), "Poor Things" (originally Poor Things) is available on Disney Plus.
The plot of the film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos based on Alasdair Gray's 1992 book of the same name, follows the story of a young Victorian woman who has blown up her soul but is brought back to life a la Frankenstein by a brilliant doctor, Dr. Godwin Baxter. Her mind is replaced Velda's mind is unborn, effectively making her an adult with the mind of a baby. Baxter calls her Bella and assigns her to be his companion, but what begins as an innocent journey turns into one of self-expression and debauchery. Bella runs away with a corrupt lawyer, learning to enjoy her sexual liberation In the 19th century, the buttoned up and pious, and in fact becomes a prostitute and "fucks her way around Europe", in the words of Welcher's film critic. Besides Stone, the film stars Willem Dafoe in the role of Dr. Baxter, Mark Raffaello as the lawyer, as well as Rami Yosef and G. Rod Carmichael.

The film received 11 Oscar nominations and won four of them: apart from Stone, the design, make-up and hair and costumes also won.
This was preceded by a series of additional award ceremonies in which "such poor people" won dozens of awards.
Since the premiere of the film at the Venice Film Festival last January, the 34-year-old Stone has received many praises for her role.
The character of Bella required a particularly bold dedication from the actress, since her character loses her inhibitions, which, among other things, means participating in many graphic sex scenes, some of which are also violent.
Lanthimus and Stone collaborated on the film "The Favorite", which was nominated for ten Oscars (and even won Olivia Colman a statuette), an acquaintance that helped the two approach the sensitive elements of the new film with ease.
