PHONE PHONES AND DANGEROUS DRIVING -

Stop those who allow themselves to be distracted by their cell phones while driving: the bill provides for the withdrawal of the driving license from 15 days to two months and a fine of up to 1,697 euros.

In the event of a repeat offense, the fine increases to 2,588 euros, the suspension of the driving license can last up to three months and a reduction of 8 to 10 points is added.

License suspended also for anyone found driving against traffic or running a red light.

REMOTE CHECKS AND HEAVY FINES -

The new bill raises the possibility of using remote checks to fine those who do not give the right of way to pedestrians and cyclists, those who park in spaces reserved for public transport, the police, firefighters, emergency services, electric vehicles and loading-unloading.

The Unified Conference then requested and obtained an increase in sanctions in some cases, such as parking in car parks for disabled people (the fine will be from 330 to 990 euros) and in bus lanes or stops (fine from 165 to 660 euros). .

SPEEDING -

On the proposal of the mayors, the fines for speeding will increase, which could reach 1,084 euros, with license suspension from 15 to 30 days for anyone who exceeds the limits twice in a year in the city.

DRUNK DRIVING -

Anyone who has already been convicted and is found again with a blood alcohol level between 0.5 and 1.5 will have to respect the new limit of 0 and will have to renew their license with a new medical examination.

For him, the penalties for driving under the influence have increased by a third and he is prohibited from driving without having installed the alcohol lock on his vehicle and at his own expense, the device that prevents the engine from starting if a blood alcohol level is detected higher than zero.

DRIVING UNDER DRUGS -

Anyone found driving while drugged, however, will no longer necessarily have to be in a state of psycho-physical alteration, but it will be enough for them to test positive for the revocation of the license and a three-year suspension.

BIKES AND SCOOTERS -

More protection for cyclists: in addition to the increase in cycle paths, there is an obligation for motorists to maintain a distance of one and a half meters when overtaking a bicycle.

Bad news, however, for those who own a scooter: license plate, helmet and insurance will be mandatory.

For those who travel without the necessary documents the fine will range between 100 and 400 euros.

Turn and brake indicator lights are also mandatory, under penalty of a fine of between 200 and 800 euros.

Sharing scooters will have to automatically lock when they leave the permitted area.

ZTL AND SPEED CAMERA -

The bill will also introduce greater specifications on ZTL areas, rules for the safety of railway level crossings, stricter rules for prohibited parking and anti-scam approvals for speed cameras, which will not have to be positioned in strategic points only "to raise cash", as Minister Salvini declared.

YOUNG PEOPLE -

Recent news has pushed Transport Minister Matteo Salvini to predict new constraints for young people too.

For new drivers, the ban on driving supercars will increase from one to three years, while minors found driving drunk or on drugs will not be able to get a license until they are 24 years old.

EDUCATION -

The bill also includes an education program for young people, which includes a two-point bonus for children who attend courses on road safety at school.
