For several months now, owners of Hyundai and Kia electric models have been reporting significant malfunctions in some of the most prominent models on the market today, which are all based on the same platform, known as E-MGP: Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, Genesis GV60 and Kia EV6.

According to the reports of customers in the USA, there have been cases in which the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power while driving, problems with charging and more. The Highway Safety Authority of the American Ministry of Transportation, the NHTSA, has already started an investigation.

In some cases, a software update was required that solved the problem in the system, However, in most cases, the replacement of a critical component in the vehicle's electrical system, the ICCU unit, was required.

ICCU is a unit responsible for the energy management of the electric vehicle, including management and control of the energy in the vehicle's batteries.

If a malfunction occurs in the unit, the vehicle may not start or stop while driving, the battery may be discharged, or the battery may not be charged as usual.

The various reports on social networks are rising in different markets, both in South Korea, in the West and here.

In Israel, there have already been the first cases in which the ICCU was required to be replaced in a number of vehicles, but at this time we do not have official data from importers Hyundai and Kia on the extent of the malfunctions.

About 6,500 cars of the four models are already driving in Israel.

The media in South Korea are reporting that Hyundai and Kia are about to issue a recall in the country for about 170,000 vehicles, and about 500,000 more vehicles of the relevant models sold in Europe and North America.

According to reports, it will be announced in the coming week.

In order for the recall to be activated in Israel as well, the two car importers (Hyundai and Genesis) and Telecar (Kia) need to receive explicit instructions from the manufacturer, and a guarantee of the availability of new replacement ICCU units for installation.

An Israeli Ionik 5 customer who encountered a problem told Walla Car: "The car suddenly stopped charging at the home charging station, nor at a public AC charging station. On the other hand, at a public fast DC charging station, the car charged as usual, including an appropriate indicator on the dashboard, which did not happen when connected to the charging stations The slowness. The vehicle was taken to a Hyundai service center where the ICCU component was replaced as part of the warranty."

The response of the importers will be brought immediately upon receipt in the Walla Car system.
