More range, lower risk of fire: The South Korean company Samsung SDI has announced a “dream battery” for electric cars.
It is scheduled to go into series production in 2027.
There have recently been some setbacks for e-mobility in Germany: After the environmental bonus funding for electric vehicles ended in December 2023, sales of electric cars fell significantly in January.
The car dealers' forecast for e-car sales in 2024 is anything but rosy.
In addition to the charging infrastructure and charging time, many potential e-car customers also complain about the range of e-cars.
That could change in the near future: One company is promising a “dream battery” for 2027.

“Dream battery” from Samsung SDI supposedly with the highest energy density in the industry
The next big step in the development of electric cars is the solid-state battery, for which Toyota has already announced the start of series production with a partner.
The South Korean battery specialist Samsung SDI has now announced series production of solid-state batteries: This should happen in 2027.
As the company reports, the “dream battery” will have the highest energy density in the industry, increasing the range of electric cars equipped with it – and also reducing the risk of fire.
Samsung SDI put a pilot plant for solid-state batteries into operation last year.

From 2029: Battery with an unusually long service life of more than 20 years
Samsung SDI has announced mass production of batteries with extremely fast charging technology from as early as 2026.
The battery should be charged from eight to 80 percent in nine minutes.
Another milestone should be reached by 2029: By then, the company wants to produce a battery with an unusually long service life of more than 20 years.

Recently, however, the internal combustion engine has also gained momentum again: Bosch wants to continue to stick to diesel and gasoline engines - and Mercedes also plans to continue building some combustion engine series for longer than originally planned.
There are now even signs that the combustion engine phase-out planned for 2035 could be overturned.
