An investigation was opened after the death of an infant of around three weeks old whose blood showed traces of cocaine, at the beginning of March in Rochefort (Charente-Maritime), we learned on Friday from the La Rochelle public prosecutor's office.
This investigation for “aggravated manslaughter” was entrusted to the interdepartmental direction of the national police (DIPN) of La Rochelle, the public prosecutor, Arnaud Laraize, told AFP, confirming information from the daily Sud Ouest.
According to the newspaper, the 38-year-old mother was interviewed by investigators and the possibility of contamination through breastfeeding is being considered.
“Analysis of the infant’s blood revealed the presence of cocaine in his metabolism,” said the prosecutor.
The possibility of a forced seizure seems to have been ruled out.
