According to experts, the transition to electric mobility will entail not only a real revolution in industry and the market, but also a drastic transformation of the world of assistance and repairs.

A change that will involve the training and inclusion of new professional figures in the structures, the creation of new structures (to communicate with the electronics but also to secure the vehicles during interventions) and - unfortunately - an increase in costs.

Federcarrozzieri, the Italian federation of independent body shops, underlines the need to make electric cars safe as soon as they enter the body shop.

This process requires the presence of qualified personnel and involves additional costs for both operators and motorists.

The greater complexity of these cars implies longer times and higher costs for disassembly, reassembly, replacement and recalibration operations.

And this could lead to a price increase of 18-30% in Italy.

In the era of electrification - according to Autodata, - it is a priority to fill the skills gap of vehicle technicians.

Preparing workshops for the EV revolution requires careful attention to the growing skills gap in the electric vehicle maintenance sector.

"This disparity - states Marco De Filippo, business development manager at Autodata - constitutes one of the most urgent challenges to face along the road towards electric mobility. This situation occurs for various reasons, in particular because technicians often find themselves without training expertise they need".

"This is not down to their expertise, but rather the challenges that independent workshops face, such as the cost of tools, lack of government support to fund training and lack of time to train due to the low turnout of new technicians into the sector".

If it is true that the future of electric vehicle assistance and repair will be able to offer opportunities to operators who are able to keep pace with change, it is precisely from tools such as those offered by Autodata that workshops will be able to quickly adapt to new specific equipment and growing dependence on software.

"Investment in specialized equipment - underlined De Filippo - represents a significant obstacle for many, especially considering the uncertainty of the return on investment in an evolving market. And a more proactive approach is therefore necessary to help workshops navigate these challenges effectively and profitably."
