In particularly poor visibility conditions, such as in heavy rain, you need to ease off the accelerator.

Darkness, fog, heavy rain can severely limit visibility - this can be particularly dangerous for motorcyclists.
But other road users also have to comply with the visual driving requirement.
Food - Poor visibility, slow pace.
Road users should always adapt their speed to visibility conditions.
This means: only drive so fast that you can stop within the distance that you can see.
This is what the visual driving requirement requires.
In heavy rain or fog - i.e. when visibility is particularly poor - the Institute for Two-Wheeler Safety (ifz) recommends driving slowly.
And the same applies in the dark: You must be able to stop your vehicle within the area of the road that is illuminated by the dipped beam.
Think about your own safety
However, an exception applies in the dark on motorways: If the tail lights of the vehicle in front are clearly visible despite a sufficient distance, drivers do not have to adapt their speed to the range of the low beam.
If obstacles and the course of the road are clearly visible thanks to guidance devices with reflectors and external light, this obligation does not apply either.
However, the legal rule is also a safety factor that should not be underestimated, especially for motorcycle and scooter riders.
Therefore, the ifz experts recommend reducing the speed significantly, especially on well-developed country roads, if drivers cannot see a clear view of the curve.
Because an obstacle can appear behind a bend at any time or the road surface can be dirty and slippery over a large area.
