They took advantage of a short one-hour race to get into her house.
Nearly 500,000 euros worth of jewelry was stolen this Friday during a burglary at the home of a resident of Sceaux (Hauts-de-Seine), we learned from a police source.
An investigation was opened by the Nanterre public prosecutor's office which entrusted the investigations to the departmental judicial police service (SDPJ 92) in order to identify and find the perpetrator(s) of the theft.
The events occurred at lunchtime, between noon and 1 p.m., in a building located on a residential street.
While she had gone to do some shopping in the Monoprix store located a few steps from her home, an 88-year-old woman realized upon her return that her apartment had been searched.
And in particular one of the rooms where there was a safe.
Gold, emeralds and diamonds
The thieves did not pull any punches since they simply tore the safe from the wall, which was hidden in a cupboard, before taking it away.
According to the victim, it contained gold necklaces, bracelets and rings, all surrounded by emeralds and diamonds.
According to the owner, the total amount of these objects is estimated at 500,000 euros, in addition to an envelope containing several hundred euros placed on the safe.
In another room, the victim also notices that the premises have been visited and that the window is open although it was closed when she left her home located on the 2nd floor of this residence which has five.
According to the first elements of the investigation, it seems that the perpetrator(s) entered without breaking in given that the octogenarian had not apparently locked his door.
In front of the police, a neighbor confirmed having heard noises coming from the home.
But so far, no witnesses have reported the presence of suspicious individuals.
Technical and scientific police officers were dispatched to the site to identify possible traces and clues left by the criminals behind them.
The investigation continues.
