In the ongoing fight against Tiktok, a new and particularly intriguing feature that is in the development stages, will soon come to Reels on Instagram:
according to an announcement by Alessandro Palozzi, a programmer and well-known hacker, the social network is working on a new feature called "Spins" ("rounds" in Hebrew), which will allow For users to add their personal touch to existing videos of other creators.
Unlike the familiar "Remix" feature, which simulates Tiktok's "Duet" feature and allows you to post a comment alongside the original, Spins will allow for greater collaborative creativity.
Users will be able to replace the text or soundtrack in an existing Reels video, creating a completely new joke or message from it.
According to reports, the original creators will receive credit every time someone spins their reels, exposing them to a wider audience.
In addition, the creators of the Reels will be able to choose whether to allow the use of Spins for each individual video.

The new feature may be a significant advantage for Instagram.
So far, Reels has been considered mostly as a Tiktok imitation.
Now, the new feature offers a collaborative and unique experience, which does not yet exist on the competing platform.
However, the Spins are still under internal development, and it is not known if and when it will be released to the general public.

Tiktok is losing ground
Last week it was announced that after years of persistent struggle - Instagram overtook TikTok in the number of global downloads in 2023. The data, published by the research company Sensor Tower, indicates a 20% jump in the number of Instagram downloads, reaching 768 million.
In contrast, TikTok registered a more moderate increase of only 4%, with 733 million downloads.
Here again, the main factor behind Instagram's success is attributed to the growing popularity of the Reels feature, short videos that compete directly with TikTok.
Additionally, the veteran photo-sharing platform seems to have the advantage of legacy features and an established community.
