“The working title is ID.1 and the vehicle is planned for 2027,” explained VW brand boss Thomas Schäfer on Thursday at the digital annual press conference of the group’s volume group.
With the small car, the aim is to round off the electric portfolio and offer “affordable electric mobility for everyone,” emphasized Schäfer.
The date was therefore deliberately set one year after the launch of ID.2all.

Development is already underway: VW wants to bring ID.1 onto the market in 2027
The company's board of directors had already spoken about the project on Wednesday, but without giving a specific date.
Schäfer now emphasized that work on ID.1 is well advanced.
“We are already in the middle of it, we know what the car has to look like.” However, it still remains to be clarified how exactly the vehicle will be implemented and where it will be produced.
“This is extremely economically challenging,” added Schäfer.

A price of 20,000 euros can only be achieved with very large quantities, which is a challenge due to the high battery costs.
Four different scenarios are currently being examined to achieve this goal.
