A terrible tragedy.
A man traveling in a wheelchair died this Monday late morning, after being hit by a truck weighing more than 3.5 tonnes, in Fonsorbes (Haute-Garonne), near Toulouse, the gendarmerie said.
“Near an Intermarché store, a person in a wheelchair was hit by a heavy goods vehicle, he died,” said the Haute-Garonne gendarmerie, confirming information published by the daily La Dépêche du Midi.
According to newspaper information, the victim was decapitated during the collision.
The accident apparently occurred at a pedestrian crossing.
Firefighters and municipal police attended the scene.
The police have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.
They should be able to use video surveillance to help them.
The truck responsible for the accident will be “scrupulously examined”, according to a source close to the investigation cited by our colleagues.

A man in a wheelchair was also killed by a truck in Le Bourget (Seine-Saint-Denis) in September 2023. The wheelchair belonged to the Le Bourget clinic, a follow-up care and rehabilitation establishment, which could suggest that the victim was a patient.
In 2016, a 45-year-old woman with a disability was also hit by a car in the street.
She was evacuated to hospital without any life-threatening injuries.
