The alleged murderer of Alaïs, a young woman aged 18 and a half stabbed and beaten to death in an apartment in Montpellier (Hérault) in February 2020, committed suicide in prison a few days before her trial, says her lawyer Me Anthony Chabert at the Parisian.
Alaïs, originally from the Paris region, was engaged in prostitution activities in Montpellier at the time of the tragedy.
His pimp Quentin Robert, then aged 28, was arrested immediately.
He finally admitted during his custody to having beaten his victim because she wanted to distance herself from him.
On the other hand, he denies having wanted to kill her.
Since then, Quentin Robert has been imprisoned in Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, awaiting his trial.
The latter must begin next Monday at the Hérault conference.
Three other defendants were to appear for complicity alongside the pimp.
“I had seen him recently, he wasn’t very well”
The alleged murderer will not be there.
He hanged himself in his cell on Saturday.
“We suspected that he was having some difficulties, I had seen him recently, he was not very well,” explains Me Anthony Chabert to our colleagues at France Bleu.
“But he was someone who had his ups and downs.
As a trial approaches, it’s true that tensions are generally a little heightened, so it was complicated to really know where he stood.”
Alaïs R. was discovered lifeless in a pool of blood inside an apartment located near Montpellier train station, which she had rented for a few days on platforms dedicated to seasonal rentals.
She died the next day in hospital.
