Between the Galaxy Ultra and the regular Galaxy always hides the Plus model, which never gets attention - while the Ultra is the one that takes the spotlight, and the basic Galaxy S is of interest to those who want to save, the Plus model often falls between the chairs, even though it offers a combination of the best between the two worlds.

That's why we took the Galaxy S24 Plus for review, and this year it's been upgraded with artificial intelligence capabilities.

We took it in for review.

Design and appearance

As I was already impressed by my first glimpse in Vegas with the launch of the 2024 Galaxy S phones, this year's phones are very beautiful and in special colors.

The Galaxy S24 Plus we received for review is no different: its finish is a beautiful pearl white (although Samsung officially calls this shade amber yellow), with the three camera lenses arranged in a vertical column and to the side of the flash.

Everything is very, very clean and meticulous, as you would expect from a Samsung rectangle.

The margins this year are also very thin, and the metal frame is nice and shiny, in short, the Galaxy S24 Plus is simply a handsome phone, and the finish this year is excellent.

The main design element that Samsung is returning to this year is the flat screen, and it looks really good, better in my opinion than the sloping screen of years past.

On the side of the device we will find the volume and activation buttons, while the opposite side is completely smooth.

At the bottom of the device is the speaker grille, the charging socket and the SIM card drawer (yes, they still exist...).

As usual, with Samsung as with Samsung, the Galaxy S24 Plus is well built, comfortable in the hand and in my eyes it is an ideal size, of 6.7 inches which sits exactly between the small Galaxy (6.2 inches) and the big brother (6.8 inches).

@nivlilien said hello to the Galaxy S24 Plus, by the way, in Israel the Exynos models will indeed be marketed in the lower models - the Snapdragon is reserved for the ultra model #techtok #samsung #galaxys24 #galaxys24ultra #galaxys24plus #Galaxy24 Galaxy #samsong #smartphone #connection #technology ♬ original sound - nivli

picture and sound

Samsung's screens in the Galaxy series have always been great, but the amazing part is how the company still manages to improve them year after year.

This year there is an improvement in brightness with higher levels than before (2600 nits compared to 1200), and the resolution has also been kicked up with 1440 x 3120 pixels - but the effect of the screen improvements is across the board and apparently the change in panel type also has an effect: the colors are great, the sharpness and brightness are fantastic.

We noticed small and new details even in scenes that were well known to us, and in fact the screen significantly upgraded the experience of using the Galaxy S24 Plus.

The screen of the Galaxy S24 Plus is simply great.

There are no surprises in the sound department either, and this year there is also better clarity in the speaker that we have not experienced in previous years.

The sound definitely sounds peripheral even though it comes out of only two.

In short, in the combination of the stunning screen with the high brightness and the quality sound experience, the Galaxy S24 Plus is a perfect machine for movies on the go.

The effect of the improvements in the screen is across the board and apparently the change in the type of panel has an effect as well!

Photo

The photography setup has not changed almost at all from last year's model and it is still based on a 50 megapixel main camera plus two boosters.

Only the telephoto lens is slightly wider (67 mm instead of 70 mm), but perhaps this is the effect of the artificial intelligence processing and computerized photography that this model has this year, the photos look great - both in daylight and at night.

All the images look good, clear, and with balanced colors, maybe even a little too balanced, and it's a bit noticeable in the night shot (slightly over-processed).

At high zoom levels at night we noticed noises, which is a bit of a shame.

Overall, the performance in the photography department is good, also in landscape, macro and night photography besides what we mentioned.

There is no significant difference from last year's photography setup, but the smart processing plus the AI-based editing capabilities definitely make a certain difference despite the virtually identical hardware.

performance and additions

The Lexi S24 Plus is quite a performance beast.

Despite the fact that in the United States it is marketed with the Snapdragon 8 generation 3, in Israel it is marketed with an Exynos 2400 processor - no less powerful, and the memory here was also expanded this year by a few gigs.

In several tests we conducted for it at 3Dmark, the Galaxy S24 Plus starred: in 3Dmark's Wild Life Extreme test, it scored 4196 points, which is better than 90 of the tested devices, and let's not forget that the Extreme version is the heavier and tougher version of said test, With high frame rates and also almost no noticeable heating with effort - Samsung does not disappoint.

Even in the Solar Bay test, which is newer and is designed to test graphical aspects such as ray tracing, the Galaxy S24 Plus array is a bomb: it produced a better result than 93(!) percent of all the tested devices, with 8583 points.

And since this year the main addition is the artificial intelligence capabilities of the generator, in what Samsung calls "the world's first AI phone", it is impossible not to refer to this as well.

Some of these capabilities are useful such as Circle to search (developed by Google and also available on its latest phones) and advanced photo editing, and some are interesting but less mature such as the writing assistant.

All in all it's a nice effort, but it looks like it will require more polish and improvements before it's useful, intuitive and easy to use.

Battery life and charging

One of the improvements made in the series this year, is the expansion of the battery in the Plus.

It was expanded by 200 mAh to 4900 mAh.

I didn't feel any significant differences compared to last year's model in terms of battery life (in fact, in tests done by one of the big sites, the S23 still had a longer battery life, maybe the shiny new screen is a heavier current user), but still, this phone will last You have been on standby for a few days, and with busy work today, which is nice.

Overall no complaints, but battery life is reasonable, but not very impressive.

On the charging side, the Galaxy S24 Plus supports wired charging of 45 watts including PD 3.0, and charges at a decent speed, along with wireless charging of 15 watts (by the way, there is also PMA support here, which is a standard that I thought had passed away...), And reverse charging of 5 watts, so you can charge with the phone any small device that needs a little power juice.

The bottom line

This year's Galaxy S24 Plus does not bring with it sensational news, it is more of a facelift, with the main change being a jump to a shockingly high-quality screen, which is closer to the Ultra than to the "regular" Galaxy.

It is also a device with very strong performance, and in this sense as well, the Plus offers more value for less money.

True, there is no stylus here or a square photo array with a periscope lens, but for those who want a Galaxy with a larger and higher-quality screen than usual, plus a good dose of performance, the Galaxy S24 Plus is definitely a good option.

For the owners of the S23 from last year who are considering whether to upgrade, it is absolutely not mandatory.

But if you are looking for a new Galaxy or to significantly upgrade an old model, the Galaxy S24 Plus should be on your list.

Score: 9
