Perfect timing?

The popular flight tracking website Flightradar24 recently launched a new feature that allows tracking of GPS jams in real time around the world.

The new feature comes at a time when Israel is suffering from GPS disruptions initiated by the IDF following the war in the Gaza Strip. The data is based on ADS-B (aircraft tracking system) data values, and is updated every 6 hours.

The map, available on the website, allows you to view the disruptions global in a 6-hour or 24-hour range, and also view date history. For example, you can see in which areas of the world GPS interference occurred last week, or last month. How does it work? The map marks the areas with poor reception using the hexagon (hexagonal shape), in three Different colors depending on the level of interference - red, yellow and green.

For those who don't know, FlightRadar24 is a Swedish service established in 2006 that uses a network of receivers around the world to receive ADS-B data from aircraft. ADS-B data is broadcast by aircraft and contains information about the aircraft's location , height, speed, direction and more.

Since the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7, and the outbreak of the war, many citizens have reported that their location in the various navigation applications is the Gaza Strip, Egypt or Lebanon, alongside those who have complained that the GPS link is completely disabled.

As mentioned, the disruptions are caused by the IDF through the use of dedicated technology that can interfere with GPS transmissions.
