The last ecological Sunday is scheduled for Sunday 24 March in Rome with the blocking of traffic for all motor vehicles in the new "Green Zone" ZTL from 7.30am to 12.30pm and from 4.30pm to 8.30pm.
"The objective - we read on the website of the Municipality of Rome - is to prevent and contain air pollution, to contribute to raising awareness among citizens on the issue of air quality and responsible use of energy sources, noting that in the territory of Rome Capital the main sources of emissions of air pollutants are represented by vehicular traffic and heating systems".
The exceptions to the provision include: electric or hybrid vehicles and single-fuel methane or LPG vehicles;
bi-fuel vehicles (with a dual petrol-LPG or petrol-methane fuel system) also converted but only if running on LPG or methane and approved in Euro 3 and subsequent class;
Euro 6 class petrol vehicles;
mopeds (50cc) with 4-stroke engines of Euro 2 class and later;
4-stroke motorcycles of Euro 3 class and later.
The other ecological Sundays of the 2023-2024 season, five in total, took place on 19 November, 3 December and 14 January and 25 February.
