They haven't given any sign of life for almost a week.
Véronique and Laurent Blond, a French couple from Tarn-et-Garonne, aged 56 and 58, have disappeared since Saturday March 16 on the Portuguese island of Madeira, La Dépêche du Midi reported on Friday.
They had gone hiking on trails in Sao Vicente.
Not seeing them return to the hotel where they were staying, their daughter, who had gone on vacation with them, alerted the local authorities, according to the regional daily.
Searches were launched on land and at sea on Sunday.
They mobilized around thirty rescuers in total, as well as a boat and drones.
After an interruption on Wednesday, due to weather conditions, the search resumed on Thursday in an extended area.
But still no trace of the couple of artisan bakers from Beaumont-de-Lomagne.
A search of their home
“They disappeared without leaving a trace, neither backpack nor clothes,” Commissioner João Góis, in charge of the investigation, told the local newspaper Diário de Notícias da Madeira.
The local police are not ruling out any leads, according to La Dépêche du Midi.
In addition to research on the Portuguese island, a search of the home of the couple, who runs a bakery in Beaumont-de-Lomagne (Tarn-et-Garonne).
Phones and electronic devices were seized.
But nothing suspicious was discovered during this search, according to information from Montauban public prosecutor Bruno Sauvage from La Dépêche du Midi.
Investigators found no clue that the couple wanted to end their lives.
