Apple's next operating system, iOS 18, is expected to bring with it a significant and exciting change - full control over the arrangement of icons on the home screen.

Since the release of the first iPhone in 2007, the arrangement of icons on the home screen has been limited to a fixed grid, which has limited customization options.

Now, according to a report in MacRumors, it looks like Apple will finally give users the freedom to design the home screen.

The sources behind the report say that the icons will still be limited to a transparent grid in order to maintain some uniformity, but users will still be able to position them in a more functional way.

For example, the possibility to create empty spaces, rows and columns between the applications is expected.

The news comes after Mark Gorman, a Bloomberg reporter, first reported that the iPhone is expected to get a home screen that is "more customizable" starting with iOS 18. Although today it is possible to customize the home screen and create blank icons with the help of apps like Shortcuts and Widgetsmith, But Apple's official customization options are expected to be more comfortable and natural to use.
