Drivers beware: the next speed camera marathon is in April.
But not every federal state uses lasers in the same way – an overview.
Spring is speed camera time - after all, the mild, sunny weather attracts many people outdoors.
Drivers and motorcyclists are often tempted to accelerate a little more than permitted.
However, if you want to avoid high fines and penalties, you should highlight one week in April as particularly red on your calendar.
The traditional speed camera marathon will take place from April 15th to 21st, as

Speed camera marathon in Germany: Photographs will be taken in these federal states in 2024
The international campaign week, which is also called the “Road Pol Speed Marathon”, is intended to ensure greater safety in road traffic.
Extreme caution should therefore be exercised in particularly vulnerable areas.
During the week of action, lasers will be used especially at dangerous intersections, in front of schools and retirement homes.
In some cities, such as Heilbronn, citizens can also vote for themselves where the speed traps should be set up.
However, special caution applies on one special day: the highlight of the “Speed Week” takes place on April 19th - for many drivers, this day is the actual speed camera marathon.
But not every federal state takes photos equally.
In Baden-Württemberg, for example, drivers have to prepare for both events - both the “Speed Week” and the speed camera marathon on April 19th.
Bavaria, on the other hand, is skipping the actual “Speed Week”, but there will be more lasering on April 19th.
In which federal states does the campaign take place and in what form?
A list provides an overview.
Speed camera marathon and “Speed week”: How traffic controls are planned in the federal states
In a total of five federal states, road users have to expect increased speed controls during “Speed Week” plus a speed camera marathon on April 19th.
These include:
Baden-Württemberg
Hesse
North Rhine-Westphalia
Rhineland-Palatinate
Saxony-Anhalt
Only “Speed Week” takes place in four federal states.
The speed camera marathon on April 19th will be waived here:

Three other federal states, on the other hand, are foregoing increased speed controls during “Speed Week”, but are putting in a lot of effort on April 19th in the form of the speed camera marathon:
Bavaria
Brandenburg
Thuringia
In the rest of Germany there is no lasering on April 19th or during “Speed Week”.
None of the actions take place in these federal states:
Berlin
Lower Saxony
Saarland
Saxony
However, the alternative campaign “Blitz for Kids” is being planned in Saxony.
Increased controls are to take place in front of schools, but the date for this is not yet known.
Positions of the laser controls: Bavaria publishes locations before the speed camera marathon
While some federal states, such as Baden-Württemberg, do not publish the locations of the laser controls at all, the police in Bavaria announce the exact location a few days before the week of action.
In order to avoid expensive fines and high penalties, drivers should always adhere to the speed limits anyway.
