Highlights: The Arc plan announced in Tokyo by Nissan includes a broad product offensive supported by new development and production approaches. This is with the aim of making electric vehicles more accessible and increasing the profitability of this sector. Nissan will offer nickel cobalt manganese oxide (NCM) batteries, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and all solid state batteries. More factories will adopt the Nissan Intelligent Factory concept: Oppama and Nissan Motor Kyushu in Japan, Sunderland in the UK, Guangzhou and Izmir in the US.

The Arc plan announced in Tokyo by Nissan - which specifies and completes the Ambition 2030 corporate strategy - includes a broad product offensive supported by new development and production approaches.

This is with the aim of making electric vehicles more accessible and increasing the profitability of this sector.

A result that Nissan aims to achieve through a 30% reduction in the cost of next-generation electric vehicles, taking the current Ariya model as a reference.

This should allow - according to The Arc plan - to achieve this 'crossover' between electric vehicles and Ice models by the fiscal year 2030.

An ambitious progress, Nissan explained, which will be achieved by developing future models by 'families', integrating the development and construction of electric and thermal (electrified) powertrains and using new generation modular production processes.

The reduction in supply costs (through the Alliance's procurement) and of course the generational leap in battery technology will also be decisive.

Only in the area of 'family' development - explains Nissan - can the cost of models derived from the main vehicle be reduced by 50%, with a 70% cut in the use of parts intended for individual outfits and finally a contraction of four months of development time.

As regards the so-called modular production, manufacturing lines will be shortened, and production times will be reduced by 20%.

More factories will adopt the Nissan Intelligent Factory concept: Oppama and Nissan Motor Kyushu in Japan, Sunderland in the UK, Guangzhou and Izmir in the US.

Nissan will offer nickel cobalt manganese oxide (NCM) batteries, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and all solid state batteries to put diversified electric models on the market and therefore suitable to meet the different needs of customers.

In particular, a significant improvement is expected - with impact on the market in 2028 - in Ncm lithium ion batteries, to reduce fast charging times by 50% and increase energy density by 50% (always taking the current Ariya. And Lfp batteries will be launched, which will reduce costs by 30% compared to the current Sakura EV minivehicle.

The Arc plan - it should be underlined - foresees the debut of 30 new models in the next three years, of which 16 electrified and 14 ICE models, to meet the various needs of customers in markets where the pace of electrification is different.

In this context, Nissan will implement the development of the so-called X-in-1 approach which will serve - with many common parts - to make electric and electrified powertrains modular.

In detail, the 3-in-1 scheme which will concern electric vehicles by modularizing three fundamental elements such as the motor, the inverter and the reducer.

While the 5-in-1 scheme takes care of the five components: motor, inverter, reducer, electric generator and multiplier.
