Pelligra Holding Italia, the Italian-Australian group of Ross Pelligra, the president of Catania Calcio, will win the tender to take over the former Fiat Blutec of Termini Imerese in extraordinary administration.
The project involves the relaunch of the entire industrial area of Termini Imerese with the creation of an industrial park, the largest commercial and logistics port in western Sicily and a connected interport.
It is not yet official, but at the end of the meeting at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, with all the interested parties, the minister Adolfo Urso explained that "at the end of the procedure only one proposal remained standing", that of a group "solid on the economic and financial, with a significant and important international reputation" and which has as its core business the reindustrialization of abandoned factories.
Fiom CGIL comments that "there is a road to re-industrialisation. But it is still long and bumpy".
And also for Fim Cisl it is a "difficult path that must be further explored with the trade unions. The minister did not want to quantify the offer, reserving the right to make it known when the operation is formally made official, while on the employment front (564 employees and around 200 in related industries) the plan envisages the hiring of 350 employees with guaranteed employment for at least the next two years. "For another approximately 180, because 40 will meet the requirements for retirement by the end of the extraordinary administration in November - explains Fiom - it will be created a special purpose company with public participation of the Sicily Region.
The objective will be to implement active policies and training for their re-employment, giving guarantees to everyone, including those who will be able to boast the right to a pension even in the face of the declared availability of the Minister of Labour, Marina Calderone", present at the meeting "to find a solution to the age-old and still the issue of strenuous work has not been resolved". Fiom reiterated that "the constraint remains that of an employment solution for all". The President of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani claimed that "we have always worked tenaciously together with the national government for the relaunch of the industrial area of Termini Imerese and to give a safe perspective to workers and their families". The regional councilor for Productive Activities Edy Tamajo, among the participants at the table, recalled that "after more than ten years of false promises, the former Fiat plant is no longer a cathedral of the desert". The Department of Labor of the Sicilian Region will make "available the expected resources, 30 million euros, both for the passive and active policies necessary to restart the production cycle" said councilor NucciaAlbano also in Rome.
Noting that this "day is the symbol of an industrial policy that our country can finally fully exercise", Urso explained that Pelligra "is already involved in other projects in Sicily, this has convinced the commissioners".
"The commercial traffic of Palermo will be transferred entirely to Termini Imerese, with a commercial operator, the largest in the world, the MSC Group. It is a solution - he concluded - which aligns with the vocation of the territory, a development model for Sicily and the 'Southern Italy".
