Taking note of the sentiment that is spreading at a European level, the 2035 deadline with the stop on new endothermic cars could be modified.
And if the objective is the decarbonisation of mobility, biofuels will also be needed.
Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said it in a video conference with the second 'Automotive Eurotribuna Politics' of #ForumAutoMotive.
"In Europe today we have seen an awareness of the reality of the rush forward in recent years with the race to electric - he said - I believe that the 2035 objective will be modified given the sentiment that is spreading at a European level. If the objective is the decarbonisation of mobility, biofuels will also be needed."
For Pichetto Fratin "electric has a great future. The electric car fleet could reach 5-6 million in Italy by 2030, but this will depend on the spending capacity of the Italian citizen. The costs remain high".
The minister confirmed that he will ask the new European Commission (which will be formed after the June elections) "to include biofuels in the European taxonomy, going beyond planes and ships. We are an excellence in this sector".
In the interview moderated by the #ForumAutMotive promoter Pierluigi Bonora, Pichetto Fratin also reiterated that "we need to focus on company fleets to make our fleet more sustainable, using the fiscal lever in terms of VAT and depreciation. The incentive mechanism does not can last forever, nor proceed in fits and starts."
