Electric cars are an expensive pleasure.
The price difference compared to combustion engines continues to grow.
But there are signs of a change.
One of the biggest criticisms of electric cars is the high prices that manufacturers charge.
These are usually significantly more expensive than a comparable model with a petrol or diesel engine.
Nothing has changed recently.

Electric cars are almost 30 percent more expensive than combustion engines
According to figures from market observers Jato Dynamics, e-mobiles cost an average of 28 percent more than combustion engines in the five largest markets in Europe in January.
In December the value was still 24 percent.
The last time the difference was below the 20 percent threshold was in February 2023. The main reason for the high price difference is the battery.
“Important reasons for this are the raw materials used in the battery and cost-intensive techniques in battery production,” explains the Federal Ministry of Economics on the

The cost disadvantages are unlikely to become smaller until the second half of the year at the earliest, when new, affordable electric cars arrive.
With the Citroën ë-C3 and the Renault 5, two affordable electric cars are coming onto the market for less than 25,000 euros.
The Renault 5 in particular is very well received by customers.

And the trend towards affordable entry-level models continues.
Numerous manufacturers are planning to bring a model onto the market in the coming years for around 25,000 euros.
Four models are planned from the VW Group alone.
In addition to the delayed ID.2all, the Cupra Raval and the Skoda Eqip will also be available to attract customers from 2025.
There is also the ID.1, which is said to cost less than 20,000 euros.

An Allianz survey from last year shows why this development is important.
53 percent of those surveyed said that they could not imagine buying an electric car.
The reason: the high prices.
And at the time of the study, as is well known, the environmental bonus was still in place.
However, this was suddenly canceled in December.
The result: electric vehicle sales fell in January and February.
And car dealers aren't particularly optimistic about the rest of the year either.
Inexpensive electric cars could possibly cushion this trend somewhat and get more customers excited about e-mobility.
The federal government's goal of 15 million electric vehicles by 2030 is probably no longer achievable.
