His father, Joe, decided to fulfill his son's dream of owning a Ford Mustang. Ford CEO Jim Farley was moved by the story and offered to drive the car for the father and son in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the manufacturer's performance division and its race track are located. "I don't know how to drift. I've always been afraid to just try it in a parking lot," says Joseph.

Since he was a child, Joseph Tegardin dreamed of the iconic sports car, and even saved up for it. But then he got terminal cancer. When his father tweeted about his decision, even Ford's CEO was moved

For those wondering why I'd buy my 18yr old son a 330hp Mustang, well, he's been given months to live and can't work long enough to buy one himself.

His comment on the way home, "Dad, I'm going to squeeze a few extra months of life just to be able to drive this."

Cars can be a means of transportation not only for getting from one place to another, but also a means of transportation for happiness, which accumulates smiles no less than kilometers.

That's exactly what the 2020 Ford Mustang did for Utah boy Joseph Tegardin, after it had been his dream car since he was six years old, when he would sit in the Mustang toy car and drive it in the driveway.

In this sense Joseph is no different from hundreds of thousands of boys, he was also no different from many of them who work hard to save enough money to buy one and make this dream a reality.

However, since he was diagnosed with bone cancer in middle school and more intensively in the last five years, he has been subjected to a series of difficult treatments and surgeries.

Those who raised an eyebrow at the need to buy an 18-year-old son a car with 330 hp received a crushing answer/manufacturer's website

Only Joe, Joseph's father, was clear that his job at the soft drink stand, and in light of the many treatments he had to go through, his chances of reaching this coveted destination were very low and he decided to fulfill his dream himself.

This is what he wrote on the X account (formerly Twitter): "For those wondering why I bought my 18-year-old son a 330 hp Mustang, well, he has a few months left to live, not enough to work and buy the car himself.

When we were on the way home one day he said to me 'Dad, I'm going to stay alive for a few more months just so I can drive her.'

' All this is happening, additional tumors were discovered in his lungs and we decided to buy the car," added the father, "life just goes in a certain direction and it's hard to even explain how quickly things changed for the whole family."

A day after his tweet was published, among the thousands of comments was one from Jim Farley, CEO of Ford. "Hi Joe, I'm sorry to hear what your family is going through.

Contact us if you are interested in coming to our racing driving school to experience the Ford Mustang 'Dark Horse' on the track.

Send me a message and we'll make it happen."

Joe Sr. replied and from there everything unfolded quickly as the Ford people take care of all the necessary arrangements to bring and host the father and son in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the manufacturer's performance division and its race track are located

. And his required achievement from there is clear: "I don't know how to drift.

I've always been afraid to just try it in a parking lot because I'd probably hit a light pole or something, so it's better to have a guide with me.

Besides that I will have the opportunity to drive one of the most powerful Mustang versions, it's going to be awesome

Its R version intended for participation in races in the GT4 category already jumps the power beyond that according to the specific calibration of each car, in addition to upgrading all the assemblies.

A personal invitation to drive on the Ford race track/manufacturer site

Jim Farley has a personal family tragedy when in the past he lost twins in premature birth, and despite his very senior status in the industry, he is described as a person with very close relationships with his family and one who attaches importance to the relationship between them.

Including people who tell how even during public events like car shows, he steps aside to remotely help with homework or just say "good night" to the kids.

In his other tweets, after Ford's invitation, the father wrote: "Over the years, I have known many parents who lost their children suddenly, who never had the opportunity to say goodbye. When my son was diagnosed, I had to decide - whether to curse God or do everything in an attempt to produce the best from this terrible situation. I decided to be grateful, grateful that we had 18 years to build memories and enjoy his company. Even now when the treatments are only to reduce the pain and prolong his life I am grateful that he is still with us."
