Monstrous specifications at a ridiculous price: we tested Xiaomi's Redmi Note 13 Pro - voila! technology

2024-03-31T10:26:21.418Z

Highlights: Xiaomi's Redmi Note 13 Pro comes with 512 GB of memory and other features of higher caliber phones. The 6.67-inch screen is actually the outer shell of all this goodness, a respectable shell that equates to a device with a luxurious fragrance. The relative advantage of the 13 Pro in Israel comes in the price segment precisely from the domestic competition. The price of the Poco on the official website is NIS 1,949, the G5 costs NIS 2,099 and the13 Pro NIS1,549.

Sophisticated, but worthwhile?/David Rosenthal

In the world of technological consumerism there are quite a few axioms. According to one of them, if a premium product can be made available to the general public, Xiaomi will be the first in line. From robotic and manual vacuum cleaners, through scooters to smartphones, the manufacturer is always at the cutting edge of the "up to now you paid at least 50 percent more for a similar item. Not anymore" category.

Over the years, the Chinese giant has accustomed us to look for hardware that usually belongs to the premium devices in its intermediate devices. It does the same with the Redmi Note 13 Pro, a smartphone with monstrous hardware of 12 GB of memory with the possibility of expansion to 24 GB, storage of 512 gigabytes (it won't help, even if it is normal, this volume will still make me cry "wow", And here there is an option to expand, to Terra). All this on top of Mediatek's Dimensity 7200 Ultra processor and a camera with an array of three sensors - a 200 megapixel sensor, an 8 megapixel sensor and a 2 megapixel macro sensor.

Add to all of these a 120 watt charger, which allows a full charge in 20 minutes, a feature that has also become standard these days. The 6.67-inch screen - the dimensions of the Galaxy 24S Ultra for illustration - is actually the outer shell of all this goodness, a respectable shell that equates to a device with a luxurious fragrance. All this comes with a nice Gorilla Glass Victus screen protection, which has been used for several years for heavy devices. Try not to test the durability, but it is likely that it will yield beautiful results.

And if we talked about luxury, let's start with the design and the battery. As always, Xiaomi knows how to produce a respectable look, and the Redmi Note 13 Pro does not fall behind its predecessors. The AMOLED display is clean and beautiful and the battery is beastly. As someone who goes into existential angst when he sees 60 percent on the screen, I was able to work with him for hours without plugging in. It doesn't have wireless charging, but I'd be lying if I said I ever considered it a necessity. Someday maybe this slow feature will improve, but we're not there yet.

One of the most important things in a phone is the camera, and this is where the Redmi Note 13 Pro differs from the premium devices. If you are looking for a perfect shot you will struggle to find consistency in the camera, sometimes it will shoot sharp and other times you will struggle to fax it, especially when you depend on the macro camera. As someone who has been carrying another intermediate device with mediocre photo quality for a year and a half, I have not found a significant upgrade.

The relative advantage of the 13 Pro in Israel comes in the price segment precisely from the domestic competition. At the same time, Xiaomi also launched the Focus X6 and the upgraded version of the Pro - Redmi Note 13 5G. The price of the Poco on the official website is NIS 1,949, the G5 costs NIS 2,099 and the 13 Pro NIS 1,549. Although as of today there is not enough G5 infrastructure in Israel, one has to wonder if it is worth purchasing the version that does not support it. On the other hand, at NIS 2,100, the competition is already much tougher, so you can understand why Xiaomi also chose a much cheaper "intermediate version".

Xiaomi's interface has never been my favorite, so anyone who is not a "Xiaomiist" will probably have a hard time getting used to it at first, when the feeling is of compression and a mess in the eyes, but compared to many devices I have tried in the past, it is very easy to operate after taking it out of the box, which is a big advantage.

So what's the bottom line?

Well, obviously the addicts of the flagship devices didn't exactly read the review and therefore they are not a relevant audience. It must be admitted that they also get a higher value for the amounts they pay, especially in the photography segment, but among the mid-range devices, the Redmi Note 13 Pro attracts attention with its specifications, especially when you get to the price line. NIS 1,549 with a two-year warranty from the official importer Hamilton makes it more worthwhile than the Poco, which is rated a little higher than it, but in my opinion not a rating that justifies a NIS 400 difference. You will hardly find intermediate devices from competitors with similar specifications at such a price, which makes the bet safe and quite profitable.
