The inhabitants of Andorra la Vella came close to the worst. Around 7:30 p.m., Sunday March 31, a 180-ton rock measuring 100 cubic meters broke away from the Pyrenees and rolled down the mountain a few meters. He stopped just before the houses, specifies a press release from the municipality, along the Bonavista canal.
National television, RTVA, published spectacular images of the landslide which fortunately did not cause any injuries or significant material damage. The landslide, however, destroyed “several gardens and walls”.

The “secure” zone
Road traffic was closed as a precaution near the affected area while it was cleaned. Access to surrounding car parks has also been prohibited. The municipality clarified late Monday that “the area in which the landslide (had) occurred” was “secure”. Only a section of the Rec del Solà hiking trail remains closed.
Work is underway to build a dike intended to protect the capital of the principality of Andorra and its 22,000 inhabitants, specifies France 3 Occitanie. Previous landslides have already threatened the city, particularly during periods of rain.
