The production of the events surrounding the Eurovision week, the Eurovision village and the Euroclub, asked the DJs who participate in the parties not to play Israeli Eurovision songs "for security reasons" - this is how it became known (Wednesday) to Walla! culture.
Karin Karlsson, the event manager at the Eurovision Village and the Euroclub in Malmö, told Walla! Tarbut in response: "The city of Malmö has not established such rules. We welcome any type of music that will be played, so there is no problem for us playing Israeli music."
At the end of the week, representatives of nine countries that will participate in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, published a joint announcement in which they referred to the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The representatives - from Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Norway, Great Britain, Denmark, San Marino, Lithuania and Finland - called for an immediate ceasefire and the return of the abductees to Israel. The petition was initiated by the British pop star Ollie Alexander, who represented Great Britain in the European singing competition.
"In light of the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, and in particular in Gaza and Israel, we do not feel comfortable maintaining silence," they wrote in the message. "It is important for us to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and to express our desire for peace, for an immediate ceasefire and the safe return of all the abductees. We stand as one man against any form of hatred, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia."
It also reads: "We believe in the unifying power of music, which allows people to rise above their differences. It is our duty to preserve this space in the hope that it will encourage empathy and compassion."
