"The Mirafiori plant is the beating heart of Stellantis". Davide Mele, Corporate Affairs manager of the group in Italy, assures this at the table convened by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso in which the unions, the president of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo participate and Anfia. Everyone is asking for a new model for the Turin factory that will compensate for the decline in sales of the electric 500 and Maserati and reduce layoffs. "It is necessary for at least 200 thousand cars to be produced in Mirafiori.

We ask that there be a competitive car model that responds to the needs of the internal market also in light of the incentives" states Urso.

Mele doesn't talk about a new model, but assures that "the electric 500 will reach ambitious targets at Mirafiori, three-digit numbers", which means 100,000 units thanks to the incentives that can bring 20% more production.

As for Maserati, "we are working - explains Mele - on the electrification of the new models to be produced on the Folgore platform: in addition to the Gran Cabrio, the new Quattroporte by June". Next week in Mirafiori the new Mechanics department will enter full production for the creation of electrified gearboxes which will employ over 500 workers, activities in addition to the recycling and battery hubs. The manager recalls that Leapmotor, the Chinese start-up with which Stellantis closed an agreement last autumn, has not yet decided anything on the productions to be done in Europe (in recent weeks there has been talk of Mirafiori and Poland).

The unions are dissatisfied. "We judge this table to be insufficient. We have had no answers to our requests" states the secretary of the Fim-Cisl, Ferdinando Uliano, while Gianluca Ficco, national secretary of the Uilm, speaks of an "interlocutory meeting". "Stellantis' contribution to the table was embarrassing. Yesterday as today he gave no answers" says the Fiom-Cgil national secretary, Samuele Lodi.

Cirio and LO Russo also underline the need for a new model for Mirafiori. "We work in this logic with a constructive approach: we ask Stellantis for commitments on this and we are available to collaborate, as we did for the recycling hub" says the governor of Piedmont.

Tomorrow at Mimit we will talk about the Atessa plant where Stellantis commercial vehicles are produced.
