Frédéric does not hide his annoyance. “Since Monday, we have been attacked by the French who know nothing about the new legalization. I think there is a real lack of information for consumers on the other side of the border,” laments this salesman in the “Babylon Garden” store in Kehl, a German town bordering Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). This shop, located only a few hundred meters from the French border, offers equipment for growing cannabis. A drug whose consumption for recreational use has been legalized across the Rhine since Monday April 1st.
“The authorities have decided to establish a framework to allow smokers to have better quality cannabis. However, they must comply with very precise measures,” explains Léa Jamet, lawyer at the European Consumer Center in Kehl. As part of this legalization measure, only adult German residents can grow up to three cannabis plants at home for strictly personal use. Furthermore, the law allows consumers to carry up to 25g on their person in the street and up to 50g at home per month.
