The DNA has spoken. The two bodies found at a depth of around a hundred meters off the coast of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) last December are indeed those of two divers who disappeared in 1993, according to information from France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur confirmed by Le Parisian. “There is no possible ambiguity” even 30 years later, confirms Yann Bessac, the director of investigation at the maritime gendarmerie.
The two remains were discovered four months ago by divers who went to explore the “American Falls”, an area considered perilous. The first body was spotted at a depth of 103m and the second at 118m. Both remains were then in an advanced state of decomposition.
The survivor saved thanks to his stabilizing vest
Daniel V., Christian T. and another diver went to explore the “American Falls” on December 4, 1993. But the dive took them beyond 60 m, a cape which can also cause nitrogen narcosis. called “drunkenness of the depths”. Excess nitrogen acts on the nervous system and causes behavioral problems.
One of the three men found himself in difficulty, according to the survivor who explained that he had gone down with the third diver to assist the missing man. “Only one of the three, who had inflated his stabilizer vest, came back up despite his loss of consciousness,” explains the director of investigation at the maritime gendarmerie to France 3. Despite the search resources deployed at the time, he had not been possible to find the bodies of the two men missing.
