Two ibexes shot dead in the cellar of a mayor of Hautes-Alpes, also administrator of the Écrins national park between 2015 and 2021. This is the damning photo found on the phone of Jean-Marie Barral (76 years old), city councilor from Châteauroux-les-Alpes, suggesting that he was involved in the destruction of a protected species. The matter is all the more serious as its municipality is a member of the park, therefore supposed to be a sanctuary for this fragile and threatened fauna.
This astonishing contradiction created a stir among environmental associations last November, during his custody. The investigation takes a family turn because his son, Hervé Barral (50 years old), is also accused of multiple acts of poaching in and around the town.
