Four pallets containing 75 boxes filled with counterfeit dollars were discovered during searches of a house in the town of Jübek in the Schleswig-Holstein region; in northern Germany, and at two professional addresses in Hamburg, according to the German channel NDR. These counterfeit dollar bills with a face value of 103 million, according to Die Welt, are “likely to be confused with real money”. They were “identified upon further examination,” investigators said in a statement.
Suspicions already weighed on the counterfeiter
Informed by American investigators, the German police were able to go to the hiding place where the counterfeit notes were located. The addresses led investigators to a 42-year-old man suspected of having “already exported counterfeit currency to the United States.”
The counterfeit notes allegedly came from a “wholesaler in Turkey,” who stored the notes in Germany for shipment to the United States. The suspect, who runs two export companies, is now under investigation by the prosecution for counterfeiting. “The manufacture, supply, and circulation of these counterfeit notes constitute offenses,” the police said.
