A new alarm arrives from the union regarding the decline in Stellantis production in Italy: in the first three months of 2024, after two years of growth, there was a reversal of the trend compared to the same period in 2023 with a decline of 9.8%. Between cars and commercial vans - explains a Fim Cisl report - the units produced are 170,415 compared to 188,910 in 2023. Car production marks -23.8%, that of vehicles grows by 28.5%. "If the data are confirmed, production in 2024 will be just over 630 thousand units, below the 751 thousand in 2023. The target of 1 million vehicles is moving away", comments general secretary Ferdinando Uliano. The data rebounds on the stock market where Stellantis shares slip and close the day with a drop of 1.8% to 24.60 euros.

All the factories are halving their production - explained Uliano - except Pomigliano, which represents more than half of the total production and where there was a growth of 26% compared to the first quarter of 2023, and Atessa. The Mirafiori production center loses the push of the electric 500 which had characterized the production rise of the last three years, compensating for the continuous decline of Maseratis. The Melfi and Cassino plants are waiting for the transition to future production on the two new Stla Medium and Stla Large platforms expected to start from the end of 2024 and the first half of 2025 respectively. Atessa's commercial vehicles, after two years of negative decline, return to make a positive and important contribution to overall volumes. "The discussion we have been having in recent days, analyzing the situation and prospects of each production site and institution, must find positive and concrete answers that we have not yet had today" underlines Uliano.

Stellantis' third corporate social responsibility report highlights progress on the sustainability front: 13% reduction in the overall CO2 footprint in 2023 compared to 2021, 58% use of electricity from renewable sources in processes of the company, strengthening its circular economy activities with the recycling last year of more than two million components in four regions (Wider Europe, North America, South America and Middle East & Africa).

Next week, Wednesday 10 April, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares is expected in Turin, where the new plant for the production of electrified transmissions for hybrid and Phev vehicles of the group's brands will be presented. On the same day, the Alfa Romeo SUV will be presented in Milan, bearing the name of the Lombard capital.
