The suspect arrested Friday in connection with the “scooter rapist” case in Grenoble was indicted this Sunday, his lawyer announced.
The 22-year-old young man, originally from Fontaine (Isère) in the Grenoble suburbs, was confused by his DNA at a rape scene and placed in police custody.
Numerous attacks around Grenoble
An investigation has been open since March 29 following several attacks. The individual is suspected of two rapes, an attempted rape, a sexual assault, acts of violence and an attempted extortion committed in the Grenoble area, according to information from the prosecution communicated Tuesday March 26.

The rapist owes his nickname to his particular modus operandi: numerous reports of women being attacked have mentioned a man chasing them on a scooter, dressed in black and driving around after dark.
Seven victims identified, an eighth potential
The toll of the “scooter rapist” would thus amount to seven attacks in less than two months, but according to information from Dauphiné Libéré, an eighth case could be added to this list. A 20-year-old young woman, attacked on the night of December 16 to 17, filed a complaint on Thursday April 4, after learning of the case in the media.
While she was returning from a nightclub, she was chased for several kilometers by a man on a scooter, who allegedly hit her and caused her to fall before she managed to escape, she testified to France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Rhône-Alpes.
