Three people were indicted and imprisoned in Martinique after the discovery of 303 kg of cocaine in the cargo area of Félix Éboué airport in Cayenne in Guyana, the Fort-de-France prosecutor's office said. A record seizure for this airport, according to Outre-mer La 1re.
The drugs were discovered in boxes last Friday by the customs services in the airport area. The investigation was then entrusted to the Anti-Narcotics Office (Ofast) of Guyana under the authority of the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction, based in Fort-de-France.
“The quantity of narcotics, the profile of the suspects but also a previous trip led the specialized interregional jurisdiction to take charge of the investigation,” commented Clarisse Taron, the public prosecutor of Fort-de-France, Wednesday after- noon.
Chargeable “material elements”
The suspects are aged 22, 27 and 29 years old. Two are of French nationality and originally from Marseille, according to Outre-mer La 1re, and the third is originally from the Dominican Republic. One of the defendants has already been convicted twice for drug offenses. “These three people dispute the facts. There are material elements that allow them to be linked to this expedition,” clarified Clarisse Taron.
According to the first elements of the investigation, at least two of the suspects had planned to take an Air Caraibes flight to Paris on which they had planned that their boxes filled with drugs would travel, detailed Outre-mer La 1re.
They were indicted for importation of narcotics in an organized gang and criminal association.
