The investigation into “searching for the causes of death” of actor Marwan Berreni was closed without further action, the public prosecutor of Villefranche-sur-Saône said in a press release this Friday “on the grounds of the absence of 'offense'.
A death at the beginning of August
“The findings made during the autopsy are compatible with a violent death by hanging, with no evidence to suggest the intervention of a third party,” specifies the prosecutor's press release. Elements which tend to confirm the suicide trail, favored by investigators.
No medicinal or narcotic substance was detected in his blood and the samples did not reveal traces of alcohol, specifies Le Progrès. According to the results, the death would have occurred at the beginning of August 2023.
The actor's body was found in an abandoned farm in Corcelles-en-Beaujolais (Rhône) on October 12, more than two months after his disappearance. An autopsy as well as DNA samples confirmed that it was indeed Marwan Berreni.
A disappearance in August 2023
The 34-year-old actor, who notably starred in the series “Plus Belle la vie”, had not been found since a road accident in Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire) on August 3, 2023.
That evening, a 37-year-old woman, Sandra, was struck down by a 4x4 near the Le 400 nightclub, on the outskirts of town. Witnesses and video surveillance images report a very violent scene: a parked car which suddenly restarts, hits the young woman on a pedestrian crossing, runs over her and flees.
Sandra was not able to see the driver, but the vehicle involved, a Mercedes 4X4, was quickly identified as being regularly used by the actor of “Plus Belle la vie”, who had settled since 2019 in the wine-growing town of Fuissé, 15 km from Mâcon.
When departmental security police officers, in charge of the investigation, sought to question him as a witness, the actor disappeared. The vehicle used by the young man was found two days later, on August 5, abandoned in the neighboring town of Fleurie, less than 5 km from Corcelles-en-Beaujolais.
