Nearly 2,000 people infected with the new coronavirus have died in the United States in the past 24 hours, according to a count at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Johns Hopkins University. It is the worst daily report in the world since the start of the pandemic.

This record increase (+1,939 exactly) brings to 12,722 the total number of deaths recorded. The first world power is thus approaching the two most bereaved countries so far, Italy (17,127 dead) and Spain (13,798).
