Coronavirus: UK exceeds 5,000 dead, 439 more in 24 hours

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic has surpassed 5,000 in the UK, with an additional 439 deaths in a single day, according to an official report released Monday, April 6.

According to health services, the death toll is now 5,373 dead and 51,608 officially identified contaminations, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson, hospitalized. This is the second consecutive day that the number of deaths has dropped after daily reports worsened throughout the past week.

Diagnosed with the Covid-19 on March 27, Boris Johnson, 55, is the only head of state or government of a great power to have been infected. He was hospitalized in a central London hospital on Sunday evening for tests, said his services as he continued to show symptoms of the disease, including fever. "His morale is good" and he remains in charge of the government, assured his spokesman on Monday.
