Gironde: four dead including two children in the crash of a passenger plane

In the morning, another tourist plane had crashed in the town of Laval (Isère), killing three people including two high school students.

Four people, including a father and his two 9-year-old children died in the crash of a tourist plane that occurred on Saturday afternoon in the town of Gujan-Mestras (Gironde), south of the Arcachon basin, we learned from corroborating sources.

The accident killed four people, a father, his two 9-year-old children and the pilot of the aircraft, the sub-prefect of Arcachon, Houda Verhnet, told AFP.

The aircraft, a Robin DR 400 type tourist plane widely used in flying clubs, had taken off from Villemarie aerodrome, in La Teste-de-Buch, near the place where it crashed, around 2:30 p.m. before catching fire, said Lieutenant-Colonel Laurent Pham, spokesperson for the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) of the Gironde.

Firefighters intervened to control the fire which had spread to a wooded area, burning 3,500 m2 of pine trees.
