Prohibition of worship: dialogue at a standstill

The Council of State is asking for the opening of a Church-State negotiation to find, by Monday, a solution to end the crisis.

It would be surprising for the Prime Minister to address the religious question this Thursday in his speech on the health situation.

Not that there are no problems to solve, but because the government is still supposed to discuss this week with the Catholic Church about the dispute between them on the prohibition of masses in public.

Seized by the episcopate and by a good number of Catholic associations, which demanded the reestablishment of the celebrations open to the faithful during this second confinement, the Council of State ruled last Saturday by asking for the opening of a Church-State negotiation for find, by Monday, a solution to end the crisis which could include strengthening the health supervision of masses.

An injustice"

These, since the end of the spring confinement, were however already limited in number of places to almost 50% of capacity.

The faithful had to wear a mask, Communion was given only in the hands of believers
