(ANSA) - TOKYO, 03 JUL - At least 19 people are missing in Japan due to a landslide that struck the eastern central prefecture of Shizuoka today, about 200 km south of Tokyo: a local official said.

The landslide was caused by the heavy rains that have hit the region for days.

Images broadcast on TV show buildings traversing a river of mud and residents fleeing the city of Atami.
