U.S. President Joe Biden has been briefed on the issue. The White House said National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Chief of Staff Ron Klein briefed the president on the rocket attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport - former Afghan president.

Meanwhile, yesterday (Sunday), a U.S. drone strike killed a suicide bomber who, according to Pentagon officials, was preparing to hit the airport while U.S. forces worked to complete the withdrawal after two decades of military involvement in Afghanistan.

This attack by the US military is the second of its kind, after a suicide bomber from the Islamic State exploded outside the airport, killing 13 American soldiers last Thursday alongside a line of Afghan civilians - desperate to escape Taliban rulers in the country.

The airport is being used by a massive influx of U.S. forces and allies, evacuating at-risk Afghan civilians.

Meanwhile, the U.S. continues to attack Islamic State militants on Kabul streets as the withdrawal draws to a close.
