A 30-year-old Colombian woman was arrested accused of having usurped the identity of a doctor registered to practice medicine, within the framework of a case that began with the complaint of the family of a patient who died in a clinic in Pilar.
The accused, identified as Sofía Garrido Escorcia (30) is a medical student, but practiced with the seal and identity of a real doctor.
Garrido Escorcia was detained in a house in Merlo by agents of the Intelligence Department Against Organized Crime of the Federal Police.
In the procedure, prescriptions, stamps, medications and documents of interest to the cause were seized.
A judicial source explained that the case began after the death of a patient in a clinic in Pilar, in 2020.
The daughter of this patient, who used to be treated at General Rodríguez, realized when her father was transferred to the clinic in Pilar that
the new doctor who treated him had the same name as the one who treated him
in the other sanatorium and called him the attention.
At that time, the patient's daughter confronted the alleged doctor for this irregularity, who asked her not to say anything, but after her father died, she reported her on suspicion that she did not have a university degree and that there had been malpractice.
The case fell into the hands of the prosecutor Andrés Quintana, from the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 2 of Pilar, who put the PFA detectives to work on the investigation, who carried out telephone taps and other intelligence tasks that allowed collecting the evidence. for the break-in.
The defendant is a student but to practice she used the identity of another doctor -identified by the sources only as "Silvia B." -, who
already declared in the file and said she did not know her.
Quintana will investigate Garrido Escorcia for the alleged crime of "illegal practice of medicine" and has already convened a medical board to evaluate his role in the care of the deceased patient.
The prosecutor could also add a second indictment for falsification of titles, judicial spokesmen added.
