A Taliban spokesman said the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a military base in the capital, police said.

An explosion took place yesterday (Monday) outside the Sardar medical complex of Muhammad Daoud Khan, named after the former Afghan president, the Taliban spokesman said.

The blast is apparently an attack on civilians, no casualties were reported.

The civilian population reported an exchange of gunfire and another explosion, which allegedly occurred in the capital’s No. 10 neighborhood, but the spokesman did not confirm this.

As you may recall, since the Taliban seized power last August in the wake of the West's withdrawal from the country, a number of internal clashes have surfaced in the form of the Islamic State Khorasan province.

In the two months since then, ISIS attacks against the Shiite population in the country have intensified mainly during prayer times in mosques while the authorities have promised to take care of their safety.
